Вот, может кому-то в сообшестве spb_probki spb_auto пригодится. От себя добавлю, что существуют и другие способы определения положения Вас или Вашего автомобиля в пространстве. Например, мой хороший приятель, волнуясь за свой автомобиль, потратил время и разобрался в услуге "Локатор" от одного из операторов связи. Теперь очень доволен, авто постоянно сообщает ему, что "Папа рядом" (с) Комеди-клаб.
Напомню, что это определение координат мобильного GSM телефона по уровню сигнала от разных сот оператора. Любой мобильник, со сдохшей батарейкой, который лежит на полке из ностальгии с 90-х, еще долго может послужить в роли GPS, если положить его в авто и запитать от бортовой сети. Важно, что СМС о координатах посылать вам будет не он, а сам оператор, поэтому затраты получаются очень и очень небольшие. Точность в городе приемлемая, в области скорее всего нет. Похожий сервис, кстати, перед началом учебного года предложили родителям, для отслеживания своих чад.

Его чемодан, путешествуя в течение 55 дней, посетил 62 страны на 6 континентах планеты.
Постоянно включенный GPS-девайс внутри этого чемодана записал в своей памяти маршрут путешествия, из линий которого и вырисовалось лицо его владельца.
Чемодан был отправлен при поддержке крупнейшего сервиса по пересылке — DHL. Общая длина маршрута превысила 70 тысяч миль.

It`s a viable solution for big commercial fleets, because having two positioning systems is always better that having one. I can predict funny comments on the Web, when GPS and GLONASS will be compared and give different positions.
And of course everytime USA goverment will raise eyebrow at some country - their military will order a lot of GLONASS (omg, they said "ass" on tv, look, mom!) devices immediately. Of course, the only thing left before world domination is to convince China to make these.

Asus' P527 GPS-enabled WinMo 6 smartphone. Asus officially launches the unit in North America sometime early this year. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Asus thinks its first North American handset deserves 3G, so we're still stuck at quadband EDGE, but the built-in WiFi, Bluetooth, and Google Earth GPS integration kinda sorta make up for it -- but we're wait for pricing.

In fact i see courier/delivery teams fall in love with those units. Beeing able to see the whole city/country picture, with information about current position of your couriers and efficiency of the routes they are taking is enormously useful. For some managers it will be more RTS-game like experience in real life. Select unit and send it to next location just by sending the coordinates to their mobile GPS phone.
